My kindle looked like this:

And this is what it looks like today:

And now I have a question:
I finished reading The Reader. I highly recommend it. Now I have a choice of two books to read:
1. Three Cups of Tea: One Man's Mission to Promote Peace . . . One School at a Time by by Greg Mortenson and David Oliver Reli
or
2. Chocolat by Joanne Harris
Which one should I read first?

Date: 2009-03-22 04:43 am (UTC)I haven't read either, but I've seen the film Chocolat and I found it to be very good (but I may be biased seeing as John Wood is in it...). I am acquainted with the author's other works, though, and I think I can safely count myself among her fans, so I say go for Chocolat.

Date: 2009-03-26 05:42 am (UTC)I hope you're not too disappointed seeing the movie after reading the book. I'm invariably let down when I do them in that order because I always have such great expectations for how they're going to film some great scene or other from the book, and it usually gets all changed around ... or deleted entirely! (I saw the first three Harry Potter movies before starting the books. I found you really can't understand the third movie without reading the book--which is why I read it. And I've been disappointed by the other two movies that have come out since then and fully expect to be let down by the sixth, which is my favorite book in the series!)

Date: 2009-03-26 05:59 am (UTC)As for my impression of the Harry Potter films... I didn't expect Lupin (my favourite character) to have a crazy moustache. And the movie depiction of his wolf form was very unimpressive - it didn't even look like a wolf, for god's sake, more like a large, skinny, hairless dog of some kind... I felt let down by the third film when I first saw it, perhaps because the third book is easily my favourite and my expectations were too high.

Date: 2009-03-26 08:53 am (UTC)I wasn't impressed with the werewolf effects either, but then, while the art direction is always awesome, I'm often disappointed with the FX in the Potter films. But how about Madeye Moody? Nothing against Brendan Gleeson, but he was nothing at all like I pictured the character when reading the book!
The third book is my second favorite (it was my first favorite till I read the sixth). Of course, my favorites are the ones where Snape figures most prominently. :)

Yes, Mad-Eye wasn't anything at all like I pictured him either. I thought his glass eye popped into his empty eye socket - I didn't envision it as a strap-on, haha.
Snape's my second-favourite character, but I can't remember HBP too well now, just the basic plot points. But then, the only HP book that I've reread again and again is Prisoner of Azkaban...
