Michael Emerson finds it hard to return to Hawaii

Michael Emerson, who was recently nominated for an Emmy for his work on "Lost," tells us although he enjoys working on the show, it will be hard to return to Hawaii in August after getting used to his fast pace life again in New York City.

"Living so far from home was an unusual experience. I had more of a sense of dislocation than I've ever had in my working life," says Emerson of living in Hawaii for nine months during last season's taping. "It is a slow pace in Hawaii. I just miss my habitual activities in New York City. I like to go to the theatre at night and I like living in a town where there is a theatre community."

Although Hawaii would seem like most people's dream, especially taking into account the flora and fauna alone, Emerson admits he's just not the outdoorsy type. "I'm the least athletic of the group. My idea of water sports would be sitting in an inner tube doing the NY Times' crossword puzzle," he says with a laugh.

Luckily, he's been able to spend some quality time in his beloved city while on hiatus. "It's been a mad scramble to catch up with friends and go to dentist appointments, and seeing the accountant. It's so nice to come back to New York City and hang out in my neighborhood. It's so cozy. I know it's Times Square, but it's cozy to me."

AWWWW. Our poor city boy. I wish I could bring him his coffee and bagels and lox and while I cannot bring him a theater community, I'd be happy to role-play with him ;)

Well, if you bring him bagels, I can yell at him, jump in front of him in a taxi line and so on, to give him that NYC feel!

I like him even more, I'm totally not outdoorsy at all. The three people I work with all spend their weekends biking, kayaking and all that. They ask me what I did over the weekend and I'll say "Well, I was out of my apartment for about 45 minutes while I went grocery shopping, spent the rest of it listening to CD's and watching baseball and football". They'll roll their eyes and laugh.

Oh, that's so sad! I love that he's honest and doesn't spout the party line about Hawaii being a dream come true. My nephew was posted there for about a year in the army and he said it quickly got to feel very small. (He's from Houston.)

Poor Michael. I think we should all move into his apartment with him just to give him that overcrowded feel. (I call the bedroom!)

Aww he's so sweet.. He misses his theater life and his friends.. Should we make him feel home there with some cuddles? *imagines* ;D

Cozy NYC?
It's too bad he doesn't like Hawaii. But yeah, he's our city boy.
And now he has to deal with all the stupid trees, the sun and the beach, hehe. Oh, Michael XD

Maybe he should invite all his fans to Hawaii for playing some theatre with him ;D

Aaaaww bless him, this makes him sound even more adorable. I admire him for doing it though, I get homesick so there is no way Icould stay away from home for that long. I would be happy to sit in that inner tube with im if he likes being crowded ;)
