I was in the hospital

I was in the hospital for the past few days. On July 17, I walked (stupidly) backwards down my staircase. I thought that I reached the bottom step, but I was really on the 4th step from the bottom and landed hard on my right foot, pulling my right-calf muscle. It was the most excruciating pain in my life. It even knocked the wind from my lungs. I had to put a fan in front of me to catch my breath.

I went to work the next day, even though I could hardly walk. Although, I take a commuter train to work, and I drive to the commuter train, I sometimes need to walk about a third of a mile to my office. I am lucky enough to be within walking distance from the commuter station and my office, but sometimes the train stops so far north in the station that the walk is long. Nonetheless, like a stupid trooper, I managed to go to work.

 My leg seemed to be improving, but by Friday (July 20), the improvement plateaued. It didn’t get better and didn’t get worse. On Tuesday, the pain in the leg got worse, and it even started swelling up tremendously. I made an appointment with my doctor for the next day.

 At the doctor’s office, it was decided that I needed an ultrasound and an X-ray to rule out blood clots and breakage. No radiologist was available, so I was sent to the local emergency center.

When I reached the emergency center, the ultrasound and the X-ray proved negative, which was good, but my blood-sugar level (I am an isulin-dependent diabetic) was at 358 (90-110 is normal) and my white-count cells were very elevated. Bottom line was that I had an infection, and, in order to avoid a possible amputation in the future (a nightmare that always looms over diabetics), I was admitted into the hospital.

 Our nearest hospital was 10-miles away. I was taken by ambulance there. So, I was in the hospital from Wednesday through Saturday.

 I am feeling better now, but I am not out of the woods. I am under oral antibiotics and the leg has to get 100% better.

 So here I am with my leg propped in the air while I am writing my saga. Hopefully, I’ll be able to return to work soon.

Yes, I forgot about that piece. I actually had fun writing it. Hey, are you a member of bens_club? If you like smut and other types of stories, that's the place to be. There is no censorship.

(I don't know whether I should be proud of this, but you should see some of the stories that sprung up from my keyboard. I didn't know that I had such a questionable talent. Why am writing about economics, when I could improve my economics? *wink*)

LOL I know what you mean. I just fell in love with Locke/Des. It seems the more I RP and write them the more I want! How bad is that?? You should see the fic that my friend and I have been working on. It's Locke/OC. Not slash, but it's literally turned into a novel!

I have yet to get to the larger stories. I seem to be able to say all that I want to say in small packages. One day....

No way, really? That's bizarre. My friend siriusstar was a massive Sirious fan. She had this whole novel she was writing. However, after Sirius died, she changed it and it's more of an original. She's quite amazing with all the lore and worlds she has created. Eventually, I hope she write a completely original story and is able to publish it.

I'm actually watching the season finale now. I haven't watched it since it first aired, amazingly enough, and I had almost forgotten how perfect it is. (Ooooh, Ben is all bloody! *cries*)

The finale is the only episode I have watched only once. I was very upset with it. Couldn't see our man so beat up. And the thought that everyone on island would be dead, and that would mean him, really upset me. But I need to rewatch that episode. Crazy thing, I am also a fan of podcasts. I have yet to listen to any podcasts that talk about the last episode. (Of course, the fact that I read the spoilers prior to the airing of the show didn't help either.)

Thanks. My LJ and MEFB family are so great. I really missed all of you while I was in the hospital. Sadly, there was no Internet service. It would have been great to have it. Sometimes I was so bored. There was nothing on TV. I read mostly. I finished the first Harry Potter book. (I know, I know, I am 6 books behind.)

Oh yeah, it would be great to play with internet while in hospital! *wishes* If you're not too sick, it helps you spend your time happily and it makes you feel home just a little bit.

Did you like the Harry Potter book? I'm behind too, LOL.. I'd like to read the first one as soon as I manage to finish the book I'm reading now. Comments on it?
