09:50 Edith's daughter here again. I'm at the hospital now. Mom's doing even better today. No more fever, heart rate lower (which is good), (cont) #

09:52 ...lungs are even better (still not perfect, but def. improved). BP higher - in fact, a bit high now. But this is good b/c it means (cont) #

09:54 ...the docs were able to give her Lasix to further improve her lungs. They will do CPAP trial @ 10:30 to see if she can get off vent. (cont) #

09:56 ...Nurses think trial will fail & tomorrow will be more likely to get off ventilator. But we'll see. Dad & I will be with her during (cont) #

09:57 ...trial. Will update when there is more news. Overall great improvement. We are just eager to get her off the vent. We miss talking to her! #

11:15 CPAP trial failed, so she is still on vent. But she lasted 15 min (sedated, so no discomfort - her gag reflex is so strong that she (cont) #

11:17 ...can't be awake for it) - yesterday she lasted 5 min. So 15 min today was progress. Will try again tomorrow. Truly is a weaning process. #

15:14 Just got back to hospital from lunch & errand break. They were just finishing another CPAP trial. Mom did great - lasted an hour. (cont) #

15:16 Prob will get off ventilator tomorrow. Yay!!!! #

16:01 Tube is out!!! Didn't expect so soon! She's having trouble waking, but the nurse said that's normal. We are here with her. #

16:26 She's still working on waking up. Mom never did enjoy that part! Hopefully she'll be awake soon. #

16:31 I'm in the waiting room w/ my daughter (Meghan), but my sis-in-law says her first words were "Basil, Basil!" - one of her dogs' names. LOL! #

16:35 Also, BIG thank you to the LJ/MEFB crew who went the teddy bear, cookies, tea, etc. She will def. enjoy them when more awake! <3 #

17:24 Sleepyhead Edith is still struggling to wake up, but she's a wee bit more with it. Guess she just liked her beauty sleep! #

22:59 Mom's doing well lungwise, but she's scaring us in other ways. She's still REALLY groggy, & she goes in & out of lucidity. (cont) #

23:01 Sometimes she knows who we are & responds to ?s & jokes appropriately (by smiling, nodding, etc.). And then she goes nuts. (cont) #

23:02 She claims she's a monster & makes scary faces, talks only in Hungarian or nonsense language, & says really weird things. (cont) #

23:03 Getting CT scan of head now. My doc hubby thinks ICU psychosis, so CT will be negative. He says she'll prob be ok in the morning. (cont) #

23:04 I sure hope so. I'm scared out of my mind right now. #

00:28 After some Googling, I'm pretty sure she has ICU psychosis. Scary, but temporary. I'm at home now. Hoping tomorrow morning will be better. #

I think your mom is just really stressed. She probably hates being on the ventilator, feels weird because of all the drugs, hates hospitals, it must be hell for her.

I think she'll feel better when the vent is out and she can relax a bit and look forward to going home. At the moment it must feel like she's never going home. :(

I will say this tho...if you're in the hospital for something you might as well be drugged out of your mind because IMO hospitals are horrible places that can drive you mad. The husband's sister had a massive stroke on her pregnancy due date and spent 8 WEEKS in the hospital but is very happy now as they kept her highly medicated and she can barely remember any of it.

Take are of yourself, Abbie, this must be rough for you and your man and poor little Meghan. :(

Never heard of ICU psychosis before, but I spent nine days in the hospital in a foreign country fearaing I was never going to get home; I don't know how I'd have survived it if not drugged out of my mind for most of it! Anyway, I'm glad I saw today's entry before this one and so glad she is back to herself now. After being out for so many days, it must be really disorienting to wake up in a "strange" place.

Thank you for the update Abbie. I'm sorry you all have to go through this. I hope this will pass soon, and that everyone is feeling healthy and happy again. (You too, get some sleep dear!).
