Major Change Coming This Season on LOST

This season, I have been spoiler free till somebody blasted speculations of the latest possible events on LOST over at Twitter. So now that I know what is about to happen, I feel compelled to discuss it here.

According to Kristen on E! someone's dying and leaving the show at the end of Season 5. She says that he or she is a much-loved character.

Some people speculate that it might be Ben. Someone over at MEFB said that

Better not be Ben. I tweeted that, but then I thought, prolly not, because although folks love the actor, the character is pretty much reviled. And Darlton love Emerson. I've heard they even write lines and angle for him to give 'em the "eyes treatment." So after my initial fear passed, I'm thinking he's safe. But I have a second worry that it might be Sawyer. Anyone else I'm wouldn't mind in varying degrees. Except for Kate, I'd pay money to see her go, but I guess she's not it, being the lead female character and all. Anyway, the bets are going down in Dark UFO and you can check your hunches with other rabid Lostoholics.

(Well, those of you in MEFB know who tweeted about it and made me see a spoiler.)

Here's my take on the possibilities:

1. It may be Desmond. Maybe we will find out that Ben killed him and his family.

2. It may even be Sun. Sun did not enter the past when she arrived on the island. Hence, her presence is no longer needed. If we do away with Sawyer and anyone else who is currently in the past, we alter the future and that person will not be alive in 2004 during the original crash. Unfortunately, Ben is in the future as well. So that becomes a problem. How beloved is Ben? Well, he does keep the audience glued to the TV and is continuously nominated for any award possible. So, TPTB need him.

3. How about Locke? He is in the present as well. And, I always said that he'd morph into Jacob. Maybe he needs to be killed in order to become the new character "Jacob." This would be brilliant on the producers' part. It would make the audience be under pins and needles trying to find out who will be killed off.  The powers to be (TPTB) are able to deliver a major death without getting the audience mad, because the actor is still delivering lines as another character.

A the end, unfortunately, we will all be disappointed, because our theories are so much better than their delivery.

I sitll wish that I was not spoiled.

I have not gone to Dark's site. I am still trying to keep spoiler free. Is Andy (dark) speculating or does he know who the person is?

I just went there. (I could kill myself for wanting to know.) It looks bleak for Ben, that's for sure, as he is the only one in the present and not in the past as the others are. If you kill someone who is in the past, you can ruin the future that we know as of now. According to Faraday, the past cannot be altered. What happened did happen and nothing can be done about it.

Now, as they are talking about a death that occurs at the end of the season, it's quite possible that they all get back into the future, and then any one of them can be killed, as the past will not be altered.

Gosh, I'd give anything to have Kate killed off already.

Well technically you CAN kill those of the O6 who are in the past. Mainly because they are still going forward in THEIR own timeline.

In their personal timelines the plane crash has already happened. So killing them in 1977 wouldn't affect it.

It would be impossible I think to kill one of those who SHOULD be in 1977 - i.e. Horace or young Ben.

But I think the O6 in 1977 are fair game. It would be pretty neat to kill one of them ... lol.

I don't know exactly. I just saw it in my ripped version of the disk. I lent my version of the disk to a friend. Could it be that it is just in American versions?

But wait, let me rethink this:

They spent time in 2004, got back to 1977 and get killed in 1977, then they cannot come back to 2004. Nope, they can't be killed.

Well, maybe ALL of them don't have to make it back. Or they don't have to make it back at all.

I'm going to be intrigued to see HOW they get back - if they do.

But I still think any of the O6 currently in the past are fair game to die. If they die in 1977, that's fine ... because their own personal timeline is still okay. They are born...grow up... get on that plane...crash...spend time on the island...go back in time to 1977 and die.

It won't stop them being born or getting onto the plane.

True, it's said you can't change the past - fair enough. And Daniel said "what happened will happen" or whatever. Again - that's cool.

Obviously the O6 are meant to be there...they always WERE there... and what they do will cause the future/present that we know.

They've created their own future so to speak. It's a lovely circular "timey wimey" thing. They interact wiht Dharma and Richard and Ben etc... and go a way towards pushing Ben and Richard towards the purge...and they end up crashing on the island.

I too, would pay hard earned cash to see Kate go.

But I think it's going to be miles or fariday. They always shy away from killing off the major ones.

OMG, if they kill Jin off after all, then I swear that getting caught driving drunk has a lot to do with it. They had to revive him this season because the fans were pissed off. But they are banking that we are cooled off. I'll drink to that. That way Ben stays. (Oh, I'm so biased.)

I'm fine with Sawyer and Jin biting the dust - I've never been particularly interested in their stories. I'd like Daniel and Miles to stay on. But Ben absolutely *cannot* die.

Frankly, I'm at a point that I wish nobody would die. Just let them all be till the end. Want to kill them off at the end? Fine. I will not have a problem with that.

I second that. Sawyer's arc ended last season, when he killed Locke's father. Miles has no purpose at all that I can tell. Kate (*shrugs). Whatever. Juliet seems to have dropped out of the plot (rather to my regret - another case of a decent female character going incomprehensibly gooey over Sawyer/Jack).
But Ben? They wouldn't dare...

It's that time of year when we all fear for Ben. We did last year and it was Charlie.

Kristen often does not know what she is talking about. I would question her use of the term "much beloved". She just wants to stir up as much action as she can on her blog so she looks good. DarkUFO is almost always correct in his spoilers so I think his list is accurate.

I too stumbled upon this and now I'm worried for Ben. However, if "much beloved" is accurate that does not fit Ben. He is in the "much hated" or the "love to hate" category. Miles does not fit the beloved category either. I don't think it's Jin because they just did the Jin is dead scenario.

It's Sawyer I'm afraid for. But then Daniel is in the running too and he has developed quite a following and I would say he is pretty much beloved. This is a guy who has been on the show for two seasons. Most of the action in the first five episodes this season was around him. After this season Daniel serves no purpose to the storyline. He was just there to explain the physics behind the time travel and be a catalyst to some happenings in 1977. My bet is Daniel. If it's Sawyer I'm going to be upset, because he is a major piece of the show. Without Sawyer is it Lost?

I have been thinking long and hard about this. I think that they may end up killing Jin. After all, it didn't stop them from killing Michael right after they brought him back to LOST.
