WASHINGTON -- Former Democratic presidential candidate John Edwards is admitting to an extramarital affair but denies fathering the woman's daughter.
Edwards tells ABC News that he lied repeatedly about the affair with a 42-year-old woman but says that he didn't love her. He says he has not taken a paternity test but knows he isn't the father because of the timing of the affair and the birth.
ABC says a former Edwards campaign staffer claims he is the father, not Edwards.
Edwards was a top contender for the Democratic nomination for president. He placed second in the Iowa caucuses last January but dropped out of the race a few weeks later.
Edwards, a former senator from North Carolina, was the Democratic nominee for vice president in 2004.

Date: 2008-08-09 02:57 am (UTC)There are a few things that bother me about this whole thing.
#1: He had this in the background and he still went forward, took the money from his donors, and ran for president.
#2 He seems to keep trying to frame it that his wife's cancer was in remission when he did it.
#3 You guys know my politics, but more than anything this is about hypocrisy. I think that anyone that stands up, regardless of political party, and pretends to be some sort of saint/bulletproof person has to pay the price for being a liar and a cheat. That includes Larry Craig, Bill Bennett, etc.
I didn't even really have a problem with Bill Clinton's affair, just the way he handled it. Could've been done better.
See, I'm not a partisan hack! XD

Date: 2008-08-09 03:01 am (UTC)It doesn't matter if his wife was in remission or not. But the fact that she had been going through what she was just makes it that much worse.
Amen!
I loved Bill Clinton and was crushed to learn he had an affair. I was so angry with him for a long time.

Date: 2008-08-09 03:06 am (UTC)I swear, you can't make this shit up.
The people I feel most for (I am not a big fan of Elizabeth Edwards, but i do feel for her too - it must be terrible to be her), are the donors. The people who actually sent in money and believed in this man. I'm sure they were sad enough that he didn't make it to president, but he at least had a shot at the VP nomination. Now, thanks to this ridiculousness, he's as dead as fried chicken. And all that money from the donors just went down the drain.

Oh, yeah, I'm sure his political career is over.

Date: 2008-08-09 03:43 am (UTC)Mainly I think she's a loudmouth and to be honest someone I would not like if I had access (aka she was a normal person I had to deal with on an everyday basis). Banging on and criticizing Hillary AND Obama with that comment that she can't make her husband black or a woman (God, did I actually type that? Me defending Hillary? The apocalypse is truly upon us XD). I don't think first lady types need to be these kind of seen but not heard bots, but she goes over the line a lot, methinks.
Plus her and John both are the biggest hypocrites when it comes to the environment. They talk about saving the planet but have this ginormous mansion that uses up more energy in a day than most of us do in a week.
Mainly, I just can't stand "save the planet" hypocrites the most. At least Bono was honest by saying he was a gas guzzling, private-plane flying rock star. XD.

Date: 2008-08-09 05:16 pm (UTC)I would be cool with people who admit their faults when it comes to the environment, because I believe that many people like Bono and others do far more to make up for these transgressions with their fundraising, awareness, etc. I just wish more people who stop acting so pious and just be honest and say, hey, I use up a lot of energy, but I also am out there raising awareness, raising money, getting people to do things to cut back, etc. I can deal with that.
