Dog Fighting, Michael Vick, Gambling, and Our Outlook on Things

Those who don't really know me more than likely can tell by my LJ name that I love dogs. Hence, when I learned about Michael Vick and his abusive treatment of dogs, I was very upset. As far as I was concerned, the fact that he gambled is not what matters to me. What matters to me is the cruel way he treated those dogs. In my opinion, not only does he deserve to go to jail, but he should be undergoing strong psychological treatment to (1) enable him to see that his behavior is not tolerable, but deplorable and (2) teach him to respect life and animals.

What bothers me a lot is that the NFL is going to punish him not because he mistreated animals, but because he gambled. What is wrong with our society?

Being in the UK I have not heard of this in the news. It saddens me greatly. I do not understand why people treat animals (or each other) badly.

I think jail is too good for them, they should undergo drug testing, instead of using animals. paedophiles especially should undergo experiments. that waty they can repay their debt to scoiety. I know my thoughts are higly controversial but this is the way I feel. My dog and fish mean the world to me. If I had the means I would run a rescue centre.

It's really disgusting case. Dogs that lost fights were sometimes killed by electrocution or hanging or drowned. This guy is a real jerk. Unfortunately, he is big in our football games.

It upsets me too, not just as a dog lover, but as an animal lover in general. I think that was a pretty sleazy thing to do. Animals don't do anything to deserve that kind of treatment. An animal has a soul too and doesn't deserve to be pitted against another in an act of senseless aggression.

I find it absolutely disgusting. I could never imagine people using animals and their pain for mindless entertainment and/or to make a buck. What if it were reverse? The dogs are sitting there watching humans torture each other. I bet they wouldn't like it, seeing that dogs are compassionate and loyal animals. I don't think that they would like to see something like that. I just can't see why a human would want to see that to our animal friends.
