Well, baby, you did the crime, and you really should pay for it.

Now, I am not saying that going out with prostitutes is the crime. Money laundering is the crime, and the fact that you relentlessly went after people who did the same thing that you are now being accused of.

Mr. Spitzer, you are a hypocrite, and I think that you should not be absolved for your crimes just because you resigned as a governor. You should be punished the same way you ruthlessly punished others.

Katie ([livejournal.com profile] _illiminez), you have to understand that this man went relentlessly after people who were laundering money. In order to sleep with a prostitute, he was laundering money. This is where it is a political issue. Laundering money is a HUGE crime in the United States.

Spitzer, by being the governor of New York, was in a very significant political position. His relentless pursuit of those people who were in the financial business and were laundering money did create an economic imbalance. However, I was all for it. Why should they reap the benefits of their crime?

Now, our news media tends to overpublicize everything. Our capitalist world is very cut throat. With the advent of CableNews, our news media is experiencing the pressure to be on top of the ratings game. That means that anything that will keep the public coming back to their station is worthy of news. Hence, people get the impression that they will do anything to overkill the news. And, I guess, they do.

However, I can tell you another thing that I am sure that you will agree with me. I find that we Americans tend to think of ourselves as the only important entity in the world. Thus, we hardly report about any other stories outside of our realm. This makes us ignorant about the world. But, you many not agree with me here, I find that the world must agree somewhat with us, because non-Americans are always watching our news and know a lot about us and our political affairs.

I don't find CNN hypocritical. I find it that it fears that, if it doesn't stay on top of the so-called hot news, it will lose its place in the ratings system. And, frankly, I think that they are right. Most Americans love the gossip, not the news. Most Americans are not intelligent enough to care about real politics and are not willing to learn how real politics affect all of us in the end.

Does this make sense to you?

Oh, you're so right. News outlets in the United States are in tough competition and in order to stay on top of the ratings they are forced to play the "news" that people want to see. I don't dispute that at all.

I was just commenting on how sad that situation is. Where a nation is forced into being naive about the world. I don't blame Americans at all. It's not their fault CNN doesn't talk about genocide in Africa or politics in Russia. But because CNN (and others) don't talk about it, nobody knows! And that means nobody cares. It's just a sad situation, that's all.

You know why people watch American news. It's not because we agree with you. It's because America is the most powerful/influential/militarized country on the planet. What you do effects everybody else. I don't think most Americans understand that.

Oil prices went up because you're dollar sucks. Because your economy is going to hell. Because America spent a shitload of money on a war that's going on waaay longer than they budgeted for. It it not (for the most part) because OPEC didn't increase supply. Barrels of oil are bought in USD. It's that simple but CNN can't even report that right. Because it would make America look bad.

IF WE DON'T ADMIT OUR ECONOMY SUCKS IT ISN'T TRUE.

It's not just the CNN is only playing American news. That's fine! It's an American station! It's the biased, gossipy, devoid of facts, FULL of opinions, news that I hate. o.O
