Episode 2.17 -- Lockdown

What a show this one turned out to be. One of my favorites is 23 Psalm, and I can say that Lockdown came very close. We learned something new about the hatches, food on the island, and how Jack will obtain the items Sawyer appropriated for himself. Next, I will give you a synopsis of the entire show (with screencaps for illustrations). Read it if you have seen the show or if you don't mind a spoiler.
The episode begins with John Locke preparing to pop the BIG question to Helen by planning to take her to a picnic lunch and do it there. Helen in the meantime is reading the paper's obituary's section. She found out that John's father is dead.
Jack, reacting to Henry’s remark about how if he were an Other, he’d send Ana Lucia looking for his balloon, but she would really end up being ambushed, and she’d be used as ransom to claim Henry back to his people, demands that Henry draw another map for him. Henry doesn’t do it. Instead, he apologizes for his stupid remark. Locke seems to take Henry side by saying that it is too late to go after Ana Lucia: “What’s done is done.” (This proves John’s continuous belief in fate.) Jack is irritated by the whole situation, demands that John put Henry back in the armory (prison), and leaves the hatch. Henry makes a remark to John about why John lets Jack talk to him this way. This time Locke is aware of the mind game that Henry is playing, grabs Henry and returns him to prison.
Ana Lucia, Sayid, and Charlie are still looking for the balloon when Charlie finds a grave. Ana Lucia notices that the torrential rain that is falling on them does not reach the gravesite. They look up, and there's the balloon. Wow, you get the feeling that yes, indeed, Henry was telling the truth.

Back at the beach Jack asks Hurley if he's seen Ana Lucia. Hurley tells him that Ana Lucia left with Sayid and Charlie the night before. Jack asks him if they told him where they were headed to. Hurley responds that in order to be told that he would need to be part of the loop. (In my opinion, Hurley is beginning to show feelings of not being part of the group, which our preparation for next week's episode where Hurley is supposedly loosing his mind.)
Both Claire and approach Jack for medical advice. Aaron is given a clean bill of health. Libby was bitten by a sea urchin and needs Neosporin. She informs Jack that Sawyer's price for Neosporin is extremely high: 10 loads of laundry for a tube.

We see Sawyer, Hurley, and Kate playing cards. (See the DHARMA playing cards? Were they from the airplane?)

At the funeral, Kate wants to make sure that John is there because he wants to be. She cracks a joke that maybe John's father has willed him a kidney.
Jack is invited to join the game. The stakes are tropical fruits. Sawyer uses two nicknames in this episode during the card game: Mutton Chop for Hurley and Amarillo Slim for Jack.

MUTTON CHOP HURLEY.
At the hatch, John hears a female voice come out of the speakers. Disturbing sounds, counting down sounds.. Next thing we know the hatch closes up. John manages to keep one door slightly open with a wedge.

Jack joins the poker game that Hurley, Sawyer, and Kate are playing.

We get a flashback to John's past. He is inspecting a house for a new owner. She is none other than Nadia. I guess Nadia was alive and well in

John asks Henry to help him out and try to get the door open. Henry requests full protection from the other Losties in return.

Jack wins back the medicine from Sawyer, which upsets Sawyer to no end. He asks him how come he didn't ask for the guns. Jack says that he will get the guns back when he wants it

.
John and Henry manage to open one of the doors ajar. John tries to go under it and the door drops on his leg. Henry has to memorize the numbers and go to the other side via the airshaft.
John gets the money out the deposit box and comes home happily only to find to goons who want to make sure that John did not speak to his father. John claims that as far as he was concerned his father was dead. The goons demand to see the bag to make sure there's no money inside. Lo and behold, John was smart and there was no money there.

At the motel where John's father is waiting, we see two Oceanic airplanes take off.

John tells his father that he did not want his money, only his love. Helen knocks on the door, finds out that John was there, and breaks up with him. She claims that Johns' father's love was more important to John than her love.
While Sawyer and John are playing poker, we find out that John was in
Meanwhile the lights in the hatch close down and a black light goes on. We get to see a map of the hatches with some writing around it. The numbers are entered and soon enough the door opens.

It’s nighttime, Kate follows Jack to the hatch. She wants to take a shower. Jack lies to her and tells that the plumbing is backed up. Suddenly, Jack and Kate see something drop near the hatch. It is a parachute full of DHARMA food supply.

Suddenly, Sayid, Ana Lucia, and Charlie approach the food. They look shocked. Jack asks them about what they have found.
Back at the hatch, Henry is helping John. Jack, Sayid, Charlie, and Ana Lucia walk in and grab Henry. John tries to protect Henry. However, Sayid affirms to Henry that they found the balloon and the gravesite. However, they were still suspicious and dug up the grave. There they found the following:
A black man was buried, who had a
Henry had the look of someone who was busted.
End of this episode.
My take on it:
-
I think that Helen was in the con with John’s father. She manages to be the at the right place, at the right time, too many times for it to be coincidental.
-
The door closes in every time there is a food delivery. Had John known that, he would not have hurt.
-
Impostor Henry Gale is not an Other. He is either part of a good tribe that is at war with the Others, or he is a scientist who was sent to take care of the hatch.
The rest of the season, I believe will be great.
I hope that you enjoyed this episode as much as I did.
