Those vets and his owners bent over backwards 50 ways from Sunday to save this horse. It really was a departure from standard practices to go this far and this long.
And I've read that veterinary medicine has gained a great deal of insight from the effort they put into caring for Barbaro, so even this ending doesn't mean it was all for nothing. How many horses who come after him will benefit from what veterinarians learned from this case?
