Let me inform those of you who don't know my background that I was born on Norway, moved to Brazil when I was 11-months old, and moved to United States when I was 13-years old. Latin American music is a great part of my heritage, and this song was played a lot at home. A few days ago, I rediscovered it, and now it permanently ingrained itself in my brain. I can't get it out. I searched YouTube and found two versions of the song. The first one is in Spanish (the way I always heard it). The second in is in Guarani, which is the language of the indigenous people of that area. (The song is originally from Paraguay.) I hope that you'll enjoy both versions:

Guarani:

Here are the words in both Spanish and my rough English translation:

Translation:

We met on a warm evening
Near the blue waters of the Ypacarai
Along the way, you were singing sadly
Old songs in Guarani.

The evening was beautiful, the moon was full,
And together with your bewitching song,
I fell in love with you.
From your white hands, through your caresses,
I felt your love for me.

Where are you now, cuñatai  (cuñatai = beautiful girl in Guarani)
That your sweet song doesn’t reach me?
Where are you now?
I long for you with such frenzy.

Everything reminds me of your sweet love
At the blue waters of the Ypacarai.
Everything reminds me of you.
My love calls out for you,
Cuñatai.
