Here I am answering my own post, but what caught my eye in this article is this:
Damon Lindelof, co-creator and executive producer of "Lost" (season premiere Wednesday at 9 p.m. EST), said the original plan was to have Henry escape after the three episodes. But Season 2 ended with Henry and his armed cadre on a dock, holding plane crash survivors Jack, Kate and Sawyer captive.
Henry Gale was supposed to escaped by the third episode (which I believe was Lockedown). Remember how when the door shut down on Locke's leg, Henry could have escaped, but he didn't. I guess, Lindeloff gathered that there were a lot of Henry Gale fans who just loved the character. Also, Lindeloff recognized how talented Michael Emerson is and decided to write the character in the show. Way to go Michael.
