GK: Among the Hardy Republicans
Oct. 21st, 2008 09:59 pmGarrison Keillor is direct in this essay. "Why did you vote to reelect that dope?" Those were his thoughts when he spent a weekend among hardy Republicans. He was polite and didn't express it, he just thought it. Of course, people do stupid things. He, as I, admit having done stupid things.
His new essay is about getting along and realizing that, despite our political differences, we are all the same: hard-working Americans. And, I admit that, like Keillor, I am primarily a Democrat simply because I believe that those who are less fortunate than I am deserve happiness as well. After all, the Democratic party is, as Keillor says, "... the party that has a better record of looking after the interests of people who earn less than a hundred grand a year."
