Experience one of America’s most riveting storytellers and good-humored satirists. Garrison Keillor enchants and inspires radio listeners and readers alike, often engaging us with questions of meaning and faith. Enjoy insights from his writing life and the latest tale from Lake Wobegon.
Of course, I kow what he is really doing. He is incorporating this lecture into his book tour for his new book: Liberty. But all Keillor's books touch upon faith, questions about faith, and faith's meaning in everyday life. Keillor was born into a fundamentalist family. He was "born again" before the phrase was coined. He has since left the strict dogma, but could not leave his faith. He often confesses that he is a believer with a liberal view. In any event, having seen his one-man shows, I can attest that it will be a fun-filled evening and that we will have a good time. In fact, here's a blurb I found on the Internet that describes how Keillor is very adept at ad-libbing and weaving situations into fun:
Stand up and sing: The best part of Garrison Keillor's presentation last week at the Crest happened in Q&A, when a woman – a Presbyterian minister – told Keillor that Prairie Home Companion should run a listener contest for Presbyterian ministers who want to be folk singers. He invited her to sing and they performed a duet of "I'll Fly Away," backed up by the audience. Then Keillor asked if there were any more questions or auditions.
