Photo Contest

One of my photos won second place in my camera club's photo contest. I am so thrilled. And, I met an old, old friend with whom we used to hang around together. His children were around my children's age. His wife and I got along and he got along with hubby. We all attended the same church together. I can't believe that he was sitting right next to me through the first half of the competition and I didn't know it. Of course, the first half is digital photography. The room is dark and all these pictures are projected for us to see. I entered two photos (the maximum allowed). I didn't win any in that category. One of my pictures was eliminated immediately. I made it to the last round with the other, but then it was eliminated. These were my digital entries:

This was eliminated right away. The judge couldn't tell whether it was a spider web or what (it was tape) around the window. She wanted  to see more of the window.

This one made it to the finals. Finally, she had to eliminate it. She said if an airplane would have been in the sky, she would have kept it. Oh, well.

After the digital category is over, we have snacks and that's when I saw him. It was awesome. We used to see each other so much. Then we changed churches and lost touch. We made up to meet again. By the way, he won third place. My friend told me that he has been a member of the club for 2 years and that it is not that easy to win. Here I am in my first month as a member and won second place. This is awesome.

After the snacks, the room stays lit, and we get to see the the photos in the printed category. (They all have to be matted.) I will find some awesome frames for my pictures.

I entered this one in printed pictures monochrome. It also was eliminated in the final round. I think I would have had better luck if I had entered this one in the digital category. The effect shows up better when projected, rather than printed.

I entered this one in the printed pictures color category. She eliminated it in the middle round.

And the winner is....

It won second place. She took a few minutes to decide between first or second. I would have been thrilled with honorable mention. Some of the other competitors are professional photographers.

Wow, Edith, that's amazing!! Congrats!! And I picked the yellow door to be entered!

By the way, I could tell right away that was tape on that window!

It was a bit harder to view because of the type of projector.

Yeah, Abbie picked the yellow door as well.

Yay! Great job, awesome pics!!!! :-)

Did you win anything?

[identity profile] spicedogs.livejournal.com 2008-10-28 04:41 am (UTC)(link)
Yes, the last photo (yellow door) won 2nd place.

[identity profile] shalimar77777.livejournal.com 2008-10-28 05:29 am (UTC)(link)
No, silly!

I mean, like a prize. Like photo paper or money or something of that nature.

I get points added to my name and then with enough points, I can actually compete in real hard contests.

Congratulations on the win. It's a pity all my favourites were eliminated (that is, the first and the third one). Oddly enough, the winning photo really doesn't do anything for me. I rather think it looks too cluttered... but it's still better than most of my attempts at photography, heh.

I don't know, I really like the first one. ?? :) But the one that placed is great too!

[identity profile] spicedogs.livejournal.com 2008-10-28 04:46 pm (UTC)(link)
I agree with you. The first one is really interesting. I found that photo judging is really subjective. Another thing to factor in is the competition. But I have seen some instances that the exact point the judge said she didn't like one picture for, she adored the next one for. Go figure it.

Congratulations! The "yellow door" was my favorite also ;))
