Monday Blues

Four things that, so far, are indicating to me that this day will suck:

  1. This time of the year, I suffer from some allergy that makes me itch to no end. No ointment works. The only thing that works is to pour scalding hot water on the itch. I've been doing that while showering. It's an amazing feeling of pain and relief. I guess that's my portal to the sadomasochistic world. Sudafed or any other product containing antihistamine works. As I didn’t have any antihistamine at home, I took some Zyrtec from Abbie. Unfortunately, drowsiness is one of the main side effects. I took my pills last night, but I am pretty drowsy today. I sit at my computer and the next thing I know, I am asleep. It’s not going to be a productive day.

  2. While I get dressed up in the morning, I put the TV on for news, traffic, and weather report. We were warned that it was quite chilly outside. Brian, who was outside trying to gather the dogs to come in for their breakfast, told me that it was not as cold as the TV said it was. So, foolish me, I listened to him and didn’t get dressed warmly. I froze my buns off at the train station.

  3. Every workday, we eat breakfast at the cafeteria at work. I always get sunny-side up eggs. Today, for some reason, they had no eggs, except for some premade ones. So, I had 2 hard-boiled eggs. I really don’t like hard-boiled eggs.

  4. Last Thursday, I accidentally left my beautiful red-and-black shawl in the cafeteria. I enquired about it, nobody turned it in. Rats, one of my possessions, once again, was stolen. The shawl was old and was getting worn, but I liked it. (One good thing is that I found the same exact shawl on the Internet, and I just bought it.)

I hope that this stream of bad luck and suckitude will end soon.

Good luck with the itch. Itch is worse than pain :-(

It was really, really cold here too this morning. I notice this on my skin too. Blech...
I'm not looking forward to scratching ice off my car window.

I wonder what the person who took your scarf will want with it. It's beautiful and pretty and also not very common. You'd notice that person right away if they'd wear it. *shakes head*

That itch is really driving me crazy.

I don't know what the person wanted with the shawl. Maybe she won't wear it here. Or maybe it was a he who took it home to his wife.

Your bad luck has already changed. You found the same shawl on Ebay. Sorry someone stole the original, though. I had the same exact thing happen to me with a scarf I'd bought. I had ordered a scarf from a lady who actually made it for me and hadn't even paid for it, when some asshole stole it. This was when I worked at Easter Seals, the same place that fired me, so, yeah...

I found it in Amazon.com. You might be right, but I still had to pay $30.00 for a new one. Oh, well, at least it's a new one.

It's very nice. Is it reversible?

[identity profile] spicedogs.livejournal.com 2008-10-21 04:59 pm (UTC)(link)
Yes, it is.

Wow - I have never heard of curing itchiness with scalding water. Yikes! ~~~sympathy~~~

I never trust my husband about the weather. What he defines as cold and what I define as cold are two different temperatures. When he says something like, "it's not really that cold," I ask him which scale he's using and translate. Sorry you froze.

*grumbles at cafeteria for you*
You'd think they'd have eggs and know your order by now.

I can hardly believe how much stuff gets stolen at your work. My goodness - hello? Security? I'd think that your work would be a secure place, but sheesh...

I hope your day improves.

Yeah, you probably never felt the agony of the itch that doesn't go away. Remember, pain and pleasure are closely related.

I def. will not listen to my husband again. Luckily, it is warm out there now.

This is the second time that they ran out of eggs. WTF?

You'd think that from the amount of scrutiny we have to go through just to get through the door, we would have fewer cases of theft. Well, maybe we do. I can't blame the person who took it. I left it in the cafeteria. I just thought that it would've been nice to return it.

Thanks.

Aw, hun! At least it can only get better.

I hope so.

Ha, suckitude seems to be going around, but perhaps it won't last too long.

Maybe it's the change of season.

With respect to the itching, this is a long shot but it'd be easy to rule out with a blood test: ask your doctor to check your liver function. Severe itching (pruritis) with no visible external cause can be induced by a surplus of bile acids in the bloodstream. It can be treated with cholestyramine.

I know this because I had a reaction to medication that impaired my liver for a couple of months, a few years back. The itching was terrible. Hot water was one of the only things that did give it some relief (like yours) but not for long. I wasn't showing many other signs of liver problems, no jaundice or anything like that, but that is what turned out to be the problem. (In my case, discontinuing the medication that caused the liver problem was what I needed to do ... though then I had to wait for the liver to recover, which is what took a couple of months ...)

Iron deficiency can also cause that kind of itching. There are actually lots of things that can (link offered not to scare but to inform, because information is empowering :) )

I hope you find out what is causing it. That kind of itching is one of the worse things I've experienced in my life and I hope never to experience it again.

Thanks for the info. Some of these are downright scary. I fit a real scary one with my symptoms. Calling the doctor for reassurance.
