What Michael Emerson represents to me
I admire how he makes his profession look so easy. I used to act in local theatre, and I can attest that it is not easy to convince the world that you are the person you are impersonating. It's not easy to remember your lines. It's not easy, at times, to make yourself vulnerable in front of so many people. Furthermore, Michael is able to take a despicable character and still instill a bit of humanity into that character so that the audience sees him as a human being. That’s magic, as far as I am concerned.
I admire him for reciting words that were written down on the script and give me shivers as he interprets those words and delivers them to the audience. I admire him to be able to make all his characters distinguishable from each other. It is Michael Emerson who is delivering those lines, but it is his character that I am seeing. I've seen a number of different movies and TV shows that he was on, and I swear there is something physically different about each character he portrayed. He has the ability to make them just a bit different physically, to make them sound differently, to make them have a different personality. I have not yet seen him in legitimate theatre, but I definitely will make an effort to see him in a play next time he will be in one. Legitimate theatre has an electrifying experience to it. I bet Michael can make great magic there.
So, in essence, I admire Michael Emerson the actor. The eye candy and the crush is part of the fun. But in the long run, there is a man with whom I’ve been sharing my household and his last name for over 36 years. Together this man and I brought two wonderful children into this world. Together, we traveled a road filled with sweetness and happiness, with an occasional sorrow thrown in for good measure. Together, we have been each others rock. We have history together. Sorry Michael, you don’t have a chance there. But, gosh, I do love watching you perform. You send shivers down my spine while I watch you weave your magic.
