Rhubarb bake off looking for contestants

CHARLES TOWN, W.Va. -The "All Our Rhubarb is Above Average" bake off, sponsored by Friends of West Virginia Public Broadcasting, is coming to Charles Town. The winner will win a pair of tickets to the West Virginia State Fair presentation of A Prairie Home Companion "Home of the Heart" Rhubarb Tour on Tuesday, Aug. 12, and an invitation to a VIP reception with the show's host, Garrison Keillor.

The winner of the Charles Town bake off will be eligible to compete for the statewide blue ribbon at the West Virginia State Fair.

Residents in Morgan, Berkeley and Jefferson counties may enter.

Participants should bring their entry to the Charles Town Farmers Market on North Samuel Street, on Saturday, July 19, between 9 and 10:30 a.m. Judging and announcement of the winner will follow.

Winning entries will be selected based on appearance, creativity, ingredients and taste. Any dish is welcome as long as rhubarb is the main ingredient. Entries must include a copy of the recipe.Entries will be judged by a panel of local culinary experts.People will judge their favorite entry based on appearance.

I use rhubarb to clean my pots. Could never think of making it into edible stuff. You have to taste your pie to make sure it is edible. LOL
